Drug-Trafficking in Colombia: The New Civil War Against Democracy and Peacebuilding

Drug-trafficking in Colombia has been a widely researched phenomenon, especially now, as the country undergoes transition process with its older guerrilla. Now more than ever it is fundamental to examine how drug-trafficking organizations violent activities affect consolidation of peace. This article considers different approaches study violence derived from drug-trafficking, order advance towards objectives transitional justice. For that matter, this work based on idea directly generates and reproduces which fueled by structural present Colombian context. My thesis phenomenon deters non-repetition guarantees weakens democracy, why there will be three main arguments presented revolve around lack consensus implications considering drug wars civil wars, decisions related conceptual apprehension limit competence international humanitarian law, need for holistic strategies capable facing drug-trafficking’s political power. Later, alternatives explored possibilities each argument offers, well aspects could contribute appropriate approach combat drug-trafficking. Lastly, I defend implementing bottom-up oriented actions can justice’s intermediate final objectives, only alternative escapes fatalist, utopian or interventionist scenarios.
